1855 Arrest and Seizure of Whiskey Being Traded at LaPoint

Report of the undersigned watch that were out last night in serch of spiritus liquors, that were delt and sold out to the Chippewa Indians at this plase. There was two barrels found in a boat at the plase called old fort. The boat was laying out in the lake and by striking on a tin kettle by us the boat came a shore thinking we suppose that it was some Indians who wanted whiskey and when some dis – distance from shore stopped, when a charge was made by the undersined persons who jumped in the lake and siesed the said boat and brought her up to shore, and three persons taken prisoners and two barrels destroyed, three bundles of goods that we suppose had been bought from the Indians were also found in the boat were taken also.
